Mary Virginia "Jennie" Wade

Born: May 21 1843 - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Died: July 3 1863 - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

On July 3rd, 1963 Jennie stood in the kitchen of her sister's home baking bread for the Union soldiers. Earlier that morning, she'd sneaked out with her brother to gather wood to keep the fire going for the bread baking. Then she read a passage from the Bible and started her day of baking. A aharpshooter's bullet passed through two doors and struck Jennie, who fell immediately with a mortal wound.

Note: The only Gettysburg civilian killed directly during the Battle of Gettysburg.
